Courts

Arkansas Case Reports present all published opinions from the Arkansas Supreme Court, the Arkansas Courts of Appeals, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.

Supreme Court of Arkansas and Arkansas Court of Appeals: All published rulings issued by Arkansas's appellate courts are summarized. Not just decisions, but also per curiam orders, because how the courts treat various motions and petitions can be as important as the discussions of law in full decisions.

United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit (and Eighth Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel): As with Arkansas's courts, all rulings from the Eighth Circuit are presented, including those from other states. The summaries specify whether state or federal law is applied, and, if state, which state's. Even in cases where the court applies state law for a state other than Arkansas, there is often important procedural information that can be of use to Arkansas attorneys.

Supreme Court of the United States: All of the Supreme Courts rulings are summarized, but with an IMPORTANT CAVEAT: due to the length of many Supreme Court cases, the summaries are necessarily much more selective than with decisions from other courts. For other courts, we strive to include all relevant facts and every important legal point leading to the court's decision. For U.S. Supreme Court cases, we only attempt to distill the most important points from the case in order to give the reader the gist of what the Court said and did. The reader should not rely on any of our summaries as an alternative to the actual reported decision, but this is especially true for U.S. Supreme Court cases.
