Read our tips on how to most efficiently use each issue of Arkansas Case Reports.
A = Table of Contents: Location of cases within the report, by court and type. On the website, the individual decisions are listed and can be clicked to take you directly to its summary. When viewing a PDF-format report in Adobe Reader, clicking on the page number in the table of contents will take you to the corresponding section.
B = Topics and Caption: The first line of each decision summary tells you what type of decision it is (civil, criminal or order) and and lists the most important legal topics addressed by the court. The caption information states the date of the opinion and gives the docket information for that case.
C = Disposition: The court's ultimate holding, such as whether the case was remanded, affirmed, etc. If there was a dissent or concurrence there will be a note to that effect, with the names of the dissenting or concurring judges/justices.
D = Facts: A concise summary of the facts relevant to the court's decision, and only those facts.
E = Law: The major legal points addressed by the court and authorities relied upon in reaching its decision. Citations are generally included only where the court references a statute or the decision of a different (usually superior) court.
